Chhattisgarh is a beautifully prosperous state of India. Chhattisgarh is also famous for its popular tourist destinations, having rich forests, well-decorated traditional folk history, rare natural wealth, magnificent temples and unique culture. 

This state comes at the 16th place among the most populous states in the country. Along with this, it is ranked tenth in the list of the largest states of India. From the point of view of history, the description of Chhattisgarh is found in both the holy Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Earlier the name of Chhattisgarh used to be Dakshin Kaushal but later the name of this place came to be Chhattisgarh when 36 bastions were merged together.

 Apart from this, the reason for the construction of 36 pillars in the grand temple of Chhattisgarhi Devi is also considered to be the basis of naming this state. 

According to the Ramayana, a sage who lived in an ashram in the Simhawal mountain of Chhattisgarh, whose name was Rishi Shringi, had performed a yajna for King Dasharatha of Ayodhya to get a son, as a result of which King Dasharatha got his four sons. 

Presently Chhattisgarh was formed as a state on 1st November 2000. Its capital was made Raipur. 

Orissa and Jharkhand are situated in the north-east, Maharashtra in the west, Uttar Pradesh in the north and Telangana state in the south. This territory was earlier a part of Madhya Pradesh.

Chitrakoot Falls



Although there are many tourist places in the state of Chhattisgarh, which was separated from Madhya Pradesh, but the importance of Chitrakoot Falls is more in them. 

Actually it is a naturally formed waterfall which is found in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh state.

 This waterfall is situated 38 km away from Jagdalpur area in this district, which is situated in the Vidyanchal mountain, which is spread on the west flowing river Indravati in the area falling between the two states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. 

Actually this waterfall is known as the widest waterfall of India. For this reason it is also called 'Niagara Falls' of India. Let us tell you that this waterfall flows very fast during the monsoon, which falls down from a height of about 100 feet and is visible up to 150 meters wide.

In seasons other than monsoon, the streams of the waterfall diverge and flow in the shape of a horseshoe. 

There is a temple situated at the left end of Chitrakoot Falls which is believed to be of Lord Shiva. Apart from this, there are many caves here. 

Along with these, kunds have also been built. All these caves are known as Parvati Caves. It is said that many small Shiva lingas and tridents are also present at the end of the pond formed under the Chitrakoot waterfall.

 The beauty of Chitrakoot Waterfalls can be gauged from the mist formed in its fast flow. Seeing such beautiful natural scenery fills the mind of tourists with joy.


 




Raipur



Raipur is the capital of Chhattisgarh and one of the largest cities in the state. Many steel plants and industrial centers of the state are established in this city, 

due to which it is counted among the major industrial centers of the country.

Dongargarh is one of the major tourist places of Chhattisgarh state. It is also famous as a pilgrimage site. Actually there is a famous temple here which is dedicated to Mata Bamleshwari Devi.

 This temple is built at a height of about 600 feet. This place is also known as Bamleshwari Bari.

 Apart from this, another temple is also present in the Dongargarh area, which is built at a distance of about half a kilometer from the Bamleshwari temple. This temple is also known as Chhota Bamleshwari Temple. 

Tourists visiting here join the huge crowd of devotees during Dussehra and Chaitra Navratri and on this occasion they come to the temple and get an opportunity to participate in the divine worship of the mother.

Chandrahasini Temple



Chandrahasini Temple is located in Janjgir district of Chhattisgarh state. This temple is built on the banks of Mahanadi at a place called Chandrapur. 

This grand temple dedicated to Goddess Chandrahasini Devi is included in the 52 Shaktipeeths of Maa Durga. Devotees are blessed to have a darshan of the mother in this huge temple and this divine feeling attracts many tourists.

 Apart from this, many different idols have been built in the large complex of Chandrahasini temple, in which big statues of Ardhanarishwar Mahadev and Hanuman ji are installed.

 Many idols have also been made at this place showing Draupadi Chir Haran, the new form of Maa Durga and the child pastimes of Krishna.

 Interestingly, a Sarva Dharma Mandir has also been built in the temple premises, in which the revered deities of all the religions of India have been given place. A grand fair is organized here every year during Navratri in which lakhs of devotees participate.

Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary



Achanakmar Tiger Reserve is one of the tourist places in Chhattisgarh. This area is 60 km away from the headquarters of Bilaspur district. 

This sanctuary was created in 1975. Although it has been declared a Tiger Reserve only in 2009. This sanctuary is spread over a wide area which is said to be 557 square kilometers.

 Tourists come here to enjoy the best experiences filled with adventure. Along with the waterfalls, there is a lot of wildlife in this area. 

Apart from being tigers, Indian squirrels, hyenas, bears, leopards, bison, wild dogs, about 150 species of birds are also found here. A watch tower has also been built here to enjoy the forest.

Bhoramdeo Temple



Bhoramdev Temple is one of the main attractions of Chhattisgarh. This temple is situated on the Macaulay mountain range, about 18 km from Kawardha.

 The temple is similar to the Konark Sun Temple of Orissa, due to which it is believed to be built during the period of 7th to 12th century.

 Actually Bhoramdev Temple is famous for its fine carvings and architecture on its walls. This temple is similar to the Khajuraho temple of Madhya Pradesh, due to which it is also addressed by the name Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh. 

Although this temple belongs to Lord Shiva, but still on its outer walls the idols of 54 erotic postures are enshrined. Such beautifully made erotic sculptures, fine carvings on stones and Shivling made of old architectural art give a different image to this temple.

Setganga



Setganga is famous as a religious city of the state of Chhattisgarh. Located in the Sate Ganga district, about 15 km from the Mungeli headquarters, this place is considered very famous since ancient times.

 There is a big reason for this that this is the first place in the whole of India where Ravana is worshiped as the gatekeeper of Lord Rama. In fact, a grand temple of Lord Shri Ram and Mother Sita is built at this place, which displays its divinity in itself.
